If you want me come and see
You seem alone inside
A true lady isn't easy to be
If you stay the night
Toss around at what you want me to be
I won't leave you tonight
Call me quickly and I'll know where to meet
I'm alone tonight
(Yeah, yeah)
I consider this to be my first masterpiece of an album. I started writing/recording this in January of 2018. I would say most of the recording process was done by May/June 2018, then things got a little busy with Foxy Apollo, Toast, Lazy Acres, and the end of Something Strange. I have been listening through everything that I had recorded and narrowed everything down to ten of (what I think) are the best tracks that represent me and my originality. Hence the title, 元の, which is Japanese for original. (Other platforms, it will be named A Multiplicity of Mirrors, since I can't use English and Japanese in the same release?)
The past few solo releases have consisted of many of these ideas, as well as various other recordings that inspired me along the way. I wanted to give you a full album, arranged in order of how the story is written, 元の (Gen no), opens up with a piece I wrote about my time living in Edmonds, and spending countless hours on the beach alone, just watching the waves come in and out. From there I take you to a distant shore where the lady of your dreams awaits.
Blue Dream takes you into a deep sleep where you can discover everything your mind is searching for, then opens you up to more than you expected to find - a room of mirrors in your mind where you are forced to look at yourself from every angle to fully understand yourself. (A Multiplicity of Mirrors, the third of it's arrangements)
You wake up to a new day full of Sunshine, the brightest track on the album. Followed by One More Tomorrow, which is a hopeful piece written for anybody looking forward to the future. It's just one more tomorrow until a new day is here.
Aztlán is a piece preformed live with Julian Wicker from TOAST. We worked this piece out together at band practice and it took us to a whole other country.
Drawing Near, Crashing Down. is a two part piece where the first half is everything building up, getting more tense, until its collapse and sweet release in Crashing Down.
Then there's only one question to ask, Where do we go from here?
